I remember seeing recently an issue of Bloomberg Businessweek featuring the new redesign. I was instantly drawn to its grid system and clean layouts. The cover might seem a bit systematic but it can definitely hold its own. It is flexible enough to allow unique covers to be designed without compromising the consistent look that it has achieved over the past few months.
I’m quite pleased to see that it has adopted a clean and functional design aesthetic, something very rare for American publishers these days.

Some more imagery from Saul Bass from some old photocopies. Included is also the missing cover from the Psychology series that I didn’t post last time around.

As far as I remember, I had read somewhere that Bass would usually use his camera during his travels to capture sources of inspiration. The picture above is an actual photograph taken by Bass.
That photograph could be considered as the main source of inspiration for the Psychology cover series, where he used the steps as the main unifying element in all four covers; a truly beautiful execution if you ask me.
